Groundhog Day

GOOD news for skiers! Punxsutawney Phil, the world's most famous furry forecaster, is reported to have seen his shadow this morning at the 118th Annual weather prediction event on Gobbler's Knob, just outside of the town of Punxsutawney, PA.

It is rooted in a German superstition that if a hibernating animal casts a shadow on the morning of February 2nd, winter will last another six weeks. If no shadow is seen, legend says spring will come early.

Meanwhile, Staten Island Chuck, groundhog and weather forecaster extraordinaire, failed to see his shadow on this sunny New York morning. Mayor Michael Bloomberg was quoted as saying: "Winter is going to end. As mayor, I promise I will bring you summer. And then, I will try to take credit for it." Isn’t that always the case?

I think I’ll put my money on Phil.
